Welcome to cafe Peu á Peu, an enchanting little retreat nestled in the heart of Kyoto at 69-2 Kamigamo Iwagakakiuchicho, Kita Ward. This charming cafe stands out as a cozy haven, inviting you to experience the warmth and hospitality typical of Japanese culture, all within a surprisingly intimate setting that feels akin to dining at a friend's home.

As you step inside, you’ll be welcomed by the friendly hostess, whose genuine kindness ensures a pleasant atmosphere that embraces you like a warm hug. The ambiance is serene and relaxing—ideal for those seeking a peaceful escape from the bustling streets of Kyoto. Tables are arranged thoughtfully to create a sense of community, making it a perfect spot to unwind over a delightful meal.

The menu, though short, offers a selection of exquisite dishes that will tantalize your taste buds. Guests rave about the French toast, which many have described as a revelation—“three times better” than any elsewhere. Accompanied by a selection of delicious breakfast toasts, every bite promises to transport you to comfort and joy. Imagine sinking your teeth into freshly made toast, perfectly crisp on the outside and unbelievably fluffy inside, paired beautifully with seasonal ingredients that speak to your senses.

Don’t miss the chance to indulge in the chef’s special cakes, with patrons particularly enjoying a refreshingly light cheesecake that melts in your mouth. As one customer noted, it feels like enjoying these delights in a friend's living room, thanks to the personal touch and care put into every offering.

Cafe Peu á Peu is not just about food; it’s about connection. Reviews from delighted visitors highlight the personal interactions and attentiveness of the lovely host, making it clear that a visit here goes beyond dining—it's an experience. Customers like Francis Bolstad appreciated the opportunity to converse with the owner, who shares local knowledge and is happy to cater the menu to fit individual preferences, making every visit feel customized and special.

But beware—the cafe's popularity means space can be limited, so arriving early or being lucky can enhance your chances of snagging a spot. For those who do make it, delightful moments await—just as Cora Mao noted, the homely vibe and friendly service create a lovely atmosphere, making you feel like you're part of a secret community of food lovers.

Whether you’re a traveler in search of authentic experiences or a local wishing to reconnect with the comforting idea of home, cafe Peu á Peu promises a memorable retreat with each visit. So, the next time you find yourself in Kyoto, take a step off the beaten path and allow this delightful cafe to captivate you with its charm, warmth, and delicious offerings!

I love this place! It is tiny with a short menu, but the host is so nice and helpful you really feel at home. I liked the breakfast menu a lot. Make sure to bring translator to better communicate and it will be great :)

If you are lucky, and she has room for you to dine, this is the place to be if you are looking for an authentic none tourist environment. It is as if you have been invited to a friend's house in Kyoto. The hostess is genuinely very nice and welcoming as with all Japanese hospitality. The food, while it is not Japanese cuisine, per se, it is definitely delicious. French toast taste 3x better HERE than in France. There's is a certain Japanese twist to all the meals. Four of us had different dishes, and ALL were delicious. Keep in mind, we are quite picky and critical of foods we eat. 10/10 for food, service, and atmosphere. Make sure you have Japanese yen.

Vegetarian friendly Perfect Japanese “morning service”. The one reformed a section of her house to create a cafe space. She serves a wonderful, and traditionally reasonably priced, morning set. We sat at the counter a chatted with her while eating. She is full of local knowledge! Was happen to arrange the menu to fit our needs. I’ll be back!!!

Beautiful home-made toys and lovely service. We dropped in after a long walk around the botanical gardens and fell in love with the place.
